Reiki
Reiki is channeling life force energy, or Ki, into and through the body for healing. Additional names for this energy are Prana, Qi, Chi and universal love, among others.
In Reiki there is no exchange of personal energy between the practitioner and the recipient, rather the practitioner is a conduit for Ki to move through. The intention to access Ki for healing amplifies and helps the Ki move more freely into stuck or tense places. The recipient need only be willing to receive, and to give verbal consent, for Reiki to take place.
We will talk about consent and safety at the start of each session to make sure you are comfortable and know what to expect.
Practically speaking, the recipient rests on a table, fully clothed and with blankets for warmth and comfort if desired, while the practitioner moves their hands around the body of the recipient. The recipient may or may not feel anything, and both are perfectly fine. If Ki is felt by the recipient during the session it is often described as tingling, warmth, pulsing, or a sense of spaciousness or pressure change in an area of the body.
The practitioner may make soft/light contact with the body of the recipient or they may hover over the body. I tend to do a mix, depending on what I feel is needed. I will ask you to do some deep breathing or energetically send breath to certain areas of the body. I may also check in with you verbally about how you’re feeling occasionally during the session, but I try to keep talking to a minimum so the recipient can really drop in to their internal process.
